The Pink Sunset #1 is inspired by a breathtaking sunset over the Sembawang area of Singapore, witnessed during a boat ride through the northern waters of the country.

It was during the lockdown, a time when travel outside of Singapore was restricted. This limitation became an opportunity to explore the most remote corners of the island. Taking a boat into Singapore’s waters was as far as one could venture. Just as the trip was coming to an end, an extraordinary sunset illuminated the horizon over the shore—a poignant reminder to always cherish life’s small joys, regardless of external circumstances.

The primary focus of Pink Sunset #1 is the water. I sought to capture the unique rhythm and energy of the waves, each telling its own story through their shapes, movements, and colors. This focus highlights the dynamic beauty of the sea, revealing both its powerful and unpredictable nature.

I chose oil as my medium to create bold, expressive strokes that bring the scenery to life. The texture and depth of the strokes convey the emotion and vitality of the moment, immersing the viewer in the experience.
